COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

Blended learning combines face-to-face instruction with online environments to offer maximum choice and flexibility for student learning. Learn how to design and implement blended learning in your K-12 classroom. Maximize your technology resources with various blended learning tools and models. Experience blended learning strategies first-hand, and promote active, self-directed learning for your students.  

 

MATERIALS:

 

Instructor selected handouts and websites

A fully functional Google account, preferably Google Apps for Education

Blended Learning in the Grades 4-12 by Catlin Tucker, Corwin Press, 2012 (optional)

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

 

Upon completion of this course the learner will be able to:

  1. Define blended learning including its benefits and its various models.
  2. Employ techniques for building a learning community- both physical and virtual.
  3. Adapt strategies and assess student learning in a blended learning environment.
  4. Access digital curriculum to design and deliver blended lessons.
  5. Implement blended learning in a variety of classroom settings.

 

 

 


DOANE EDUCATION STANDARDS:

 

The graduate student, as a developing professional, works toward building and improving skills in the following areas:\

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Attendance, participation, voice, and insight.

Attendance is vital to performing the others. Due to the blended format of this course, full participation is expected both online and face-to-face; synchronously and asynchronously.

  • Professional interaction through digital tools

Tools including, but not limited to: Canvas LMS, Google Apps for Education, Blogger, Blendspace, EdPuzzle, OER repositories.

  • Design a blended learning unit for your classroom

Create a plan for a blended learning unit for your classroom environment for next year. This can be for personal professional use and/or for student use. The action plan should include at least three different techniques and tools we explored in class and detailed ideas for how you would use them (think lesson plans).

 

EVALUATION:

 

All work is expected to be of highest quality. Work not completed at this level will be turned back to the student for review and revision.

 

Attendance & class participation = 20 points possible

Blended Learning Tasks (on Canvas) = 50 points possible

Blended Learning Implementation plan = 30 points possible

90-100 pts. = A

80-89 pts. = B

70-79 pts. = C
