Course Syllabus

 COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Apply the latest apps and educational technology tools so that students show evidence of proficiency. Learn guiding principles, best practices, and loads of technology integration project ideas for your learners to teach others what they have learned, thereby mastering content at higher levels. Develop a classroom culture where technology empowers students to “show what they know.”

 

MATERIALS: 

Instructor selected handouts and websites

A fully functional Google account, preferably Google Apps for Education

A fully functional Apple ID for downloading apps from the iTunes Store

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this course the learner will be able to:

  1. Define student creation including benefits and various models.
  2. Employ techniques for building a learning community- both physical and virtual.
  3. Adapt strategies and assess student learning in a technology-rich learning environment.
  4. Access digital tools to design and deliver student creation lessons.
  5. Implement technology-infused learning in a variety of classroom settings.

 

EDUCATION STANDARDS:

The graduate student, as a developing professional, works toward building and improving skills in the following areas:

  2. The developing professional understands how children learn and develop, and provides opportunities supporting intellectual, social, and personal growth.

  3. The developing professional understands and uses a variety of formal and informal assessment strategies.
  4. The developing professional is a reflective practitioner who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.
  5. The developing professional fosters relationships with school colleagues, families, and agencies in the larger community to support students’ learning and welfare.

 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Attendance, participation, voice, and insight

Attendance is vital to performing the others. Due to the blended format of this course, full participation is expected both online and face-to-face; synchronously and asynchronously.

  • Professional exploration of digital tools

Technology tools will be presented grouped under “themes” or a similar purpose. Each week will require exploring a wide range of technology solutions and choosing at least one to create a student-facing activity to implement prior to the next meeting time.

  • Design and delivery of technology-infused projects or lessons

After implementing each technology “student creation” lesson with learners, reflect on the results and share with the rest of the class.

 

EVALUATION:

All work is expected to be of highest quality. Work not completed at this level will be turned back to the student for review and revision.

Ten technology-infused lessons/projects for learners to “show what they know” will be designed and delivered to fulfill course requirements. Each will be worth a maximum of 10 points. Overall grading for the course will be based on the following point scale.

90-100 pts. = A

80-89 pts. = B

70-79 pts. = C
